This Modernist inspired home is all about living big on a small lot and showing that you can still achieve a solar passive, energy efficient home on a tightly confined site.

With a width of only 12.5 metres and surrounded by two and three storey homes, this home was designed to maximise northern light and summer breezes, achieving a 7.5 Star Energy Efficiency Rating. With high raking ceilings and glass doors that slide away, the home extends into the garden and court spaces seamlessly, blurring the distinction between inside and out.

The interiors are warm and earthy with a steel and timber 'floating' staircase as a feature in the entry. The white cubistic walls of the exterior are offset by the warmth of cedar cladding while wide eaves extend overhead to provide shade and interest to the facade.

We wanted a family home that would perform well from an environmental aspect and feel spacious with a large amount of glazing overlooking the garden.

The house works exceptionally well in both summer and winter with minimal requirement for heating or cooling.
